Health Coaching Focused on Progress Over Perfection

I won’t spend too much time on why I think the Aldi grocery chain is pure genius. You can find oodles of articles out there explaining how Aldi is able to keep their prices so low. It’s everything from how they stock their shelves, the ridiculous number of bar codes on every product, the fact that you have to bring your own bags and return your cart. All these decisions allow them to run an entire store with a skeleton crew and keep their overhead cost down. And unlike many people, I love the fact that there is usually only one brand of anything to choose from. I don’t want to stare at 30 different ranch dressings trying to decide which one is the best value. Aldi makes it simple by only stocking one variety. Because of this, I am able to get in and out of Aldi in about 15 minutes.

Aldi has a core set of grocery items but they also have a big selection of seasonal items. Having shopped there for years, I’m getting a feel for the items that come and go and how often my favorites make a comeback. Here are 14 items I always grab when I’m shopping at Aldi. All but one item is there year-round and I’ve learned to stock up on the seasonal item when it’s available.

Organic Unsweetened Almond Milk

If you are an almond milk drinker, this is a great choice. The taste is great, the price is right, and for some reason it froths up better than any other almond milk I’ve tried.

Organic Sea Salt Popcorn

Popcorn is a high fiber whole grain and in my book, that makes it a great afternoon snack. At 35 calories a cup, this snack won’t break the calorie bank.

Belle Vie Sparkling Seltzer Water

I am not a snob when it comes to sparkling waters. I will try any brand and flavor. Aldi has a great selection at 1/2 the price of Bubly or La Croix, which is a good thing since I drink 3-4 cans a day.

Frozen Vegetable Blends

No matter the season Aldi makes it easy to have vegetables on hand. Frozen vegetables are picked in season and frozen immediately. This often makes them healthier than their fresh counterparts. Aldi has a great selection of frozen medleys to match any meal you are making.

Knock Your Sprouts Off Sprouted Grain Bread

Sprouted breads are all the rage for their protein count and healthy status. This is a great bread! The texture is just right and it even comes in low-sodium.

Moser Roth 85% Dark Chocolate

Absolutely no guilt eating dark chocolate after reading the health benefits it can provide. This chocolate bar is big with 5 mini bars inside. Half of a mini-bar makes a great snack when you need a little something sweet. Aldi has many other flavors if you aren’t a dark chocolate fan but this is the only one for me!

Roasted Chili & Pepper Jack

Cauliflower Dip

When you get tired of hummus, this a go-to dip. It also makes a great spread on sandwiches or wraps.

Fresh Atlantic Salmon Side

My family loves salmon so much it is a weekly meal in our house. This is fresh salmon that is BAP certified. My Aldi usually sells it for $7.99/lb which is an incredible price.

Never Any! Lunch Meat

I know that deli meat should be minimized in a healthy diet but there are times you need the convenience. I at least feel better knowing that I am buying lunch meat with no antibiotics, added hormones, preservatives, or other animal by-products.

Never Any! Chicken Sausages

The Never Any! line of deli products also has chicken sausages. These are great to have on hand for a quick dinner. Toss them with some vegetables and brown rice and you’ve got yourself a dinner for the family. Aldi also has other flavors like Spinach & Feta, Tomato & Basil, and Apple.

Sweet Mini Peppers

The Aldi produce department isn’t vast but it has everything I typically use in a week. This bag of mini sweet peppers is great dipped in that cauliflower dip or cut up in salads.

Organic Baby Spinach & Arugula

Aldi has a decent line-up of organic produce. I always pick up a box of this spinach & arugula mix to have for salads or to sauté in dishes.

Oven Roasted Almonds

You can’t beat Aldi’s prices on nuts and dried fruits. You’ll find so many varieties, mixes, and flavors.

Frozen Salmon Burgers

I saved this one for last since it seems to be a seasonal item. I usually find it in the store in the spring and summer. My family loves this burger so much that I buy 4-5 boxes on every trip. I stock up for the fall and winter!
